Our Practice Owners/Veterinarians:

tn_HPIM0586.JPG     Dr. John Gayfer

John graduated from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980 and started practicing in the Victoria area that same year.  In spring of 1981, Dr. Gayfer and Dr. Basterfield purchased the Juan de Fuca Veterinary Clinic and formed a partnership, which is still in existence today, with the addition of Dr. Cairns in 1994.  John lives in Metchosin with his wife Carrie, and three of their four children, David, James and Daniel.

Most of John's spare time it taken up with a large vegetable garden, looking after horses, dogs, cows and chickens and very occasionally playing golf.

Our Associate Veterinarians:

tn_Dr_Corry.jpg     Dr. Elizabeth Corry

Dr. Elizabeth Corry graduated from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, and joined our practice as an Associate Veterinarian in June 2007.  We are very fortunate to have Elizabeth on staff as she is skilled in ultrasound, even teaching courses to other vets!  Elizabeth's strongest interests lie in internal medicine, and she is quickly forming bonds with many of our patients and clients.  We are thrilled to have Elizabeth on our team!

Elizabeth grew up in Victoria, and now she and her partner, Craig, spend most of their time renovating their new old house.  Elizabeth also enjoys spending time with family, experimenting with gardening, playing the tuba and trying to learn guitar.  She and Craig share their home with an adorable black and white cat named Squeak, who knows how to "sit" and give "high 5's".

Levente Degi was born and raised in Transylvania - Romania, where he received his DVM degree in 1996.  He, his wife Romana and their three cats moved to Canada in 2005.  Levi has been working in small animal practice for 12 years and in the last 4 years he was practicing at different clinics in Calgary.  His primary interests are diagnostic imaging and emergency critical care medicine.

Being on vacation on the island they fell in love with Victoria and they have decided to move on the west coast and enjoy everything this beautiful city has to offer and especially the ocean.  In their spare time, Romana and Levente enjoy spending time close to nature and travelling.

tn_21Sept2006_002.jpg     Dr. Blythe Baillie

Dr. Blythe Baillie joined our team in September 2005.  Blythe brings our practice and its wonderful patients over 20 years of veterinary skill and expertise.  We are so fortunate to have her here Monday through Thursday mornings to make your family pets feel better.

Blythe has a son, Rhys, who keeps her busy when not at the clinic.  Ask her about Rhys and watch her eyes light up!  In the rest of her free time she enjoys gardening, kayaking (she is, after all, an Islander born and bred).  She and her family share their home with 2 cats and 1 dog.
