Veterinarian/Practice Owner, DVM
John graduated Ontario Veterinary College in 1980. He moved to Victoria after graduation to work as a staff veterinarian at the Juan de Fuca Veterinary Clinic and the Central Saanich Veterinary Clinic. Both clinics provided small animal and farm animal medicine and surgery. In September 1981, in partnership with John Gayfer, they purchased the Juan de Fuca Veterinary Clinic. Over the next thirteen years small animal medicine and surgery grew dramatically and at that time John chose to focus on the companion animal practice exclusively. John enjoys embracing new technological development in the practice such as endoscopy, laser therapy, tonometry and having the most up to date laboratory facilities to provide rapid, accurate results.
John is a designated member of the practice for the College of Veterinarians of BC. He is also a member of the Society of BC Veterinarians and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. He is the past Chairman of the Continuing Education Committee for the SBCV and is a member of the Canadian Academy of Veterinary Dermatology. He sits on the Advisory Board for Trupanion pet health insurance company.
John has been an avid motorcyclist enjoying sport touring with friends. He has been a supporter in bicycling events in greater Victoria for the last ten years providing moto support services. John enjoys gardening, cooking and travelling with his wife Kay. Together they share the joy of three grandchildren. John plans to practice as long as he is able and maintains his passion for educating and helping people provide the best care for their pets.
